I believe I’ve reached the middle chapters in the story of my life. The first third of the book has brought us here, to these chapters when the main character begins to feel change. If the start of the book lacked action, now is when things take an unexpected turn. If the book hasn’t slowed down since the flip of that first page, this may be when the character starts to gain perspective. However it’s been written, this is the point in the story where everything that has happened so far has been taken into account. This is the point when experience, knowledge, and purpose all collide and determine what happens next.
It was about a year ago when I noticed I wasn’t loving how my middle chapters were playing out. At times, I found myself wishing I could go back and rewrite the whole thing. Well, I can’t; that ink has long dried. But the story is still being written. My next chapters are just beginning, and this time I want to make sure I’m fully invested in writing them.
Sometimes you need to inscribe your own change. We don’t all have talented authors to write stimulating plotlines and engrossing character arcs for us; we need to write our own.
In preparation for writing these next pages, my biggest inspiration came from my muse – books. After taking quite a large hiatus from reading in my 20s where all I read was college books (that usually bored me) and social media posts (that usually consumed me), I found joy reading in my 30s again. That joy was especially found in books where I began to see my life reflected in the pages. I gravitated towards books that understood my story, and didn’t view it as uninspiring. I felt as though these authors were in my head, knew what I was longing for, and offered words and advice that would start me on that path to change.
I started this website to share my passion for these books that inspire growth. I’ve read these books and aggregated the most impactful things they’ve had to say on topics I found important. Topics that many of us can use a little inspiration (or guidance) on. And if you find you want to pick up your own full copy, you can view all the books I have read and will continue to read at my library.
You might have made your way here because you don’t have time to read entire self help books, or maybe you’re also feeling a bit stuck, or maybe you’re just a supportive friend of mine. Whatever the case, this is a place for you (and I) to come back to whenever we need it. A place where you can remember that you, too, have a story of your own that’s beautiful, and one of a kind, and constantly being written.
